When utilizing compost please pay attention to the signage indicating where to properly unload the compost material.
Logs from compost are available to be taken for firewood or other uses
Acceptable items are:
Leaves and grass
Brush and Branches less than 4 inches in diameter
Logs less than 16 inches in length and less than 16 inches in diameter
In order to continue to provide the compost site for Richfield Township property owners, effective April 1, 2025, new rules and regulations will be implemented.
-Compost site is for Richfield Township Property Owners and Richfield Township businesses only.
-Richfield Township Property Owners will be required to purchase a key fob, card access or smartphone app (Access Key) for access and use of the compost site. This pass will operate annually based on the calendar year. (1/1 to 12/31). Passes are renewed at the Treasurer’s Office.
-Commercial Yard Waste Haulers will be required to purchase a yearly permit.
-The compost site will be gated and accessible by a purchased Access Key.
-The compost site will be open April 1st to November 30th each year. Daily hours of operation will be posted on Richfield Township website and available at the Township Office.
-Tree Branches (Maximum 4” in diameter).
-Tree Trunks larger than 4” and less than 6” will be cut to less than 18” in length and placed in the area designated for this type of material.
-The removal of material for firewood or other purposes is allowed. Any additional cutting or splitting is the responsibility of the Access key owner. At no time will Township personnel or equipment be utilized for loading or splitting OF such material.
-NO STUMPS, NO TRASH, NO GARBAGE, NO PLASTIC BAGS, LUMBER OR BUILDING MATERIALS.
-No soil, cement or other materials will be allowed.
– Access Keys are to be utilized for the Richfield Township address provided at registration.
– Access Keys are non-transferable.
-All disposed brush and compost will be placed in the assigned area.
Commercial Yard Waste Hauler is any person/business that charges a fee for the following services: cutting of trees, branches or cut limbs, brush, lawn cuttings, hedge trimmings and/or leaves generated by clearing, maintenance and/or cleaning up of natural materials growing on a property; this also includes the hauling of the above-mentioned items, including compost and chips to and/or from the Township compost site.
Richfield Township Property Owner-An individual who owns, rents or leases property within Richfield Township and is not included in the above Commercial Yard Waste Hauler description.
Richfield Township Property Owners who want to use the compost site may purchase a yearly Access Key for $10.00 each. This fee is renewable on an annual basis beginning January 1st. If an Access Key is lost or broken you will be required to purchase a new one.
Commercial Yard Waste Hauler (Business located within Richfield Township) servicing Richfield Township property owners will be charged $500.00 for yearly permit. One (1) Access Key is included.
All access will be obtained by use of the Business Key. At NO TIME should a customer or a residential key be utilized. This will result in the loss of access privileges.
Additional Access Keys linked to the commercial account may be purchased for $10.00 each.
If an Access Key is lost or broken you will be required to purchase a new one.
All persons who violate any rules, whether as owner, occupant, lessee, agent, servant, or employee shall be equally liable as principles. Any person who violates any portion of the Richfield Township Compost Site Rules & Regulations shall lose access privileges and may be responsible for a municipal civil infraction.
*First Violation-Access Keys(s) will be de-activated for the remainder of the year
*Richfield Township reserves the right to change the hours and days of operations as necessary.
*Richfield Township reserves the right to change the opening and closing of the season as necessary.
*The fee structure will be reviewed and established from time to time by the Township Board.
