Welcome to the Richfield Township Building & Zoning Department. All Construction- related permits (Building, Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing) are issued by the Township Building official who is also the township’s Building Inspector. Each of our inspectors are licensed in the respective trades and are registered code official with the State Of Michigan.

• Current Construction Codes: Our Building Department administrates and enforces the current Michigan codes (with amendments): the 2015 Michigan Residential Code, 2015 Michigan Building Code, 2015 Michigan Rehabilitation code, 2015 Michigan Energy Code, National Electric Code 2017 of Michigan, 2015 Michigan Mechanical Code, and the 2018 Michigan Plumbing Code. Additionally, our Department enforces the accessible and usable buildings and facilities 2009 of Michigan (with the American with Disabilities Act Standards of 2010) and the BCSI standards of truss installation and bracing (2018).
• To Apply for a Permit: Download the application from the link below, fill it out completely with signature, and return the Building Department either by PDF email (bldgdept@richfieldtownship.com), regular mail, or drop off at the Richfield Township Offices.
• To Make a payment: For Building Permits, the fee is based on the project details; you will be contacted with the amount. For Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing application, you can use the for to determine the fee and pay with check or cash. Payments can also be made with a credit card over the phone or in person. Call the building department durning regular business hours to make arrangements.
• To Schedule and Inspection: It is the permit holder’s responsibility to schedule the required inspections. Contact information is listed at the top of each issued permit.
